Speedy feet take off
Athletics: They might be only young but they are definitely talented youngsters when it comes to athletics.
Roma Little Athletics club recently had 14 athletes compete at the Regional relays in Toowoomba on November 11, ranging in ages from under-8s to U16s.
The regional relays are a friendly competition which allows teams the opportunity to compete and progress through to the state relay championships in Brisbane.
From the regional relays, 12 of the 14 Roma athletes qualified to compete at Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre in Brisbane, however, due to injury and other circumstances, only five of these were able to travel away to compete at the weekend.
The remaining two competitors missed out as they were too young for the state relay competition.
Athletes who competed in Brisbane at the weekend too part in various events during the day, including the 4x100m relay, 1000m Swedish relay, discus and shot put, with the U16 boys' 4x100m relay team finishing fourth in their heat and 10th out of 12 overall.
Kealey Harland also competed in a multi centre team for the girls' 4x100m relay.
"Being able to compete in these competitions are a great opportunity for these athletes and allows them to grow as athletes and make some lifelong friends,” Roma Little Athletics committee member Angela Lorenz said.
Little Athletics season runs during Term 4 and Term 1. The 2019 season starts on Saturday,
February 2.
