Speed dating returns to Roma thanks to Apex

SPEED dating will return to Roma for the first time in years this weekend – just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Apex Roma have brought the concept back to help adults find a new way to have fun and maybe meet someone.

Organiser Kirsty Keel said she thought of the idea with a fellow Apexian when she realised there were few places for single people to meet, aside from the bar.

“Steph [Kay] and I were talking about it when I realised there wasn’t any face-to-face dating programs – they’re only online and a lot of them involve people who are just passing through,” she said.

The night will run as a series of dates worth seven minutes in length, with the aim to see if a connection can be reached.

“We’re hoping to have a bell and a time limit and also a few tips on what to say or not say to help people,” Ms Keel said.

“The dates will run for seven minutes per person and we’re going to do separate tables for a bit of privacy.”

But Ms Keel said the aim was to ask about what a person liked or disliked – not how much money they made or what they did for a living.

“The things we want to avoid is asking what they do and how much they make,” she said.

“A lot of people are still a bit undecided but hopefully it’s a bit of fun and people can get something out of it.

“I think a lot of people should get on board.”

The night at the Roma Bowls Club on Saturday from 6pm will also double as a promotion for the club’s Valentine’s Day Ball on February 13.
