Rugby League: The Southwest Country side has been named following a hard-fought trial game between the Western Ringers and the representative Roma and District team at the weekend.

The rugby league team will be travelling to Toowoomba on May 5-6 to compete in the 47th Battalion, facing off against Rockhampton first.

Roma and District and Southwest Country representative coach Wayne Collie said they would take a side of 25 to the competition.

"We are allowed to take 19 players but at this stage we are going to name 25 so we have a bit of depth because last year when we went up to Yeppoon to play and had four pull out due to work,” he said.

Despite the trial game being one-sided, Collie said the Ringers put up a fight.

"The score line didn't really show the game because we ended up beating them 42-8 but to their credit they kept coming back at us really strong,” he said.

"They put up a good fight for a side who just turned up on the day.”

Western Ringers coach Shaun Radnedge said he was proud of his team, as many of the boys were given late notice of playing.

"It was good to see the boys get behind what we did,” he said.

"We had some players pull out along the way but were able to pick up some others.”

Unlike the side from the Roma and District Rugby League Competition, Radnedge's chargers hadn't yet played a competitive game of footy in 2018, giving them a major disadvantage.

"Our competition hasn't started yet, so it was the boys' first run in a while,” Radnedge said.

The rep side will also play at the Queensland Outback Carnival on June 18.
