Souths crush the luck
Cricket: Souths cricket side is proving to be the team to beat this year after its triumphant win over the Leprechauns on Saturday.
Despite Souths being understrength, without players Ryan Carter, Clancy Sheehan and Jeremy Skillz, the team still managed to come out in full fight for the match.
Souths won the toss and elected to bat, which was just the start of taking the luck from the Leprechauns.
Leprechauns were also short on the field, with Lauchlan Hoey, Deontay Boney and Timmy Cahill all missing the weekend match.
Souths made an impressive 248 runs off their 40 overs.
Scott MacDonald was dominant on the cricket pitch, scoring 104 runs off 66 balls.
The runs didn't stop there, with Scott Hilton chipping in with 52 run and Peter Voll with 25.
Ben Whipp was instrumental when it came to the Leprechauns' bowling, taking 3/28.
Leprechauns tired to chase the Souths' tally but fell short and the side was all out for 52.
The highlight was Anthony Tucker, who was not out on 17.
Souths bowlers Jeff Maslin took 4/15 and Scott Pearson with 3/10.
In other games, Injune and Wallumbilla went head to head at Wallumbilla.
Having the home-ground advantage, the Wallumbilla XI won the toss and batted first, making 146 runs.
Injune was next to the pitch, easily making the runs with 12 overs left and five wickets down.
Injune captain Ryan Allen said the season was so far so good.
"We are going pretty good,” Allen said.
"Souths are the team to try and beat and that is going to be hard however we did beat the Leprechauns recently and they finished second last season.
"It is going to take a special day to beat the Souths but, for now, we are really working on taking any chances in games to get our opposition out,” Allen said.
Mitchell had the bye on the weekend.
