'Do you love me?' question almost ends in jail time
A TEENAGER assaulted her boyfriend because he didn't respond when she asked if he loved her.
They'd been lying in bed when she asked, "Do you love me?"
He got up without answering because he thought it was a stupid question and went to get a glass of water, prosecutor Sheena Hayes said.
She followed him into the kitchen, grabbed him by the hair and attempted to head butt him, the Mackay Magistrates Court was told.
The pair struggled and she ripped out a clump of his hair.
This is her third breach of a domestic violence order against her then-boyfriend.
She had been placed on probation when she pleaded guilty to the other two breaches last year.
The court was told she had been unwilling to engage in any sort of intervention as part of the probation order.
Magistrate Damien Dwyer expressed surprise that she was even given the option of refusing.
"This is jail country as far as I'm concerned," Mr Dwyer said.
The 19-year-old was "now a single person", duty solicitor David Strutynski, of Strutynski Law, said.
"(It was) clearly a tempestuous relationship... (that) relationship is over," he said.
She was working hard to better her life, he said.
Mr Dwyer commented she had "to do something about her anger."
Mr Dwyer said, "I know you have some difficulties" but if she didn't address her issues she would spend longer and longer in jail.
"You've got three months hanging over your head... any more of this rubbish and you'll go to jail."
