Two-headed snake leaves breeder seeing double

MICHAEL Maloney thought he was seeing double when his spotted python hatched.

Two heads emerged as the egg began to break apart, Roma's Mr Maloney thought that it was a typical set of twins.

But it was anything but typical, what slithered out was a two-headed baby spotted python.

"All I was thinking when I saw the two heads connected to the same body was 'what the hell is that?'" he said.

"I've been breeding snakes for quite a few years but it's the first two-headed snake I've actually seen."

The technical term for having more than one head is Polycephaly.

Within a minute of hatching, the unusual reptile had died, typical for most Polycephalic snakes.

"He crawled out and went belly up the poor little fella," Mr Maloney said.

The reptile enthusiast has kept the snake frozen since it died and plans to preserve it.
