Skipper says Sixers 'probably don't deserve' to play finals

CRICKET: The Sydney Sixers will look to rebound from their embarrassing batting display against the Sydney Thunder last week when they take on the Melbourne Stars at the MCG tonight.

Their season depends on it. In the last weekend before finals, the Sixers (eight points) were sitting fourth on the table ahead of last night's clash between the ladder-leading Heat (10 points) and sixth-placed Renegades (six points).

A win to the Renegades would have seen them usurp the Sixers, who have a poor net run rate, in the top four.

Also still in the running for a spot in the semi-finals, the Hurricanes (six points) welcome the third-placed Scorchers (eight points) to Hobart in the other game tonight.

The Sixers were restricted to 9-99 against the bottom-placed Thunder and skipper Moises Henriques said his side "probably don't deserve to” be playing finals after the way they played.

But he added that having beaten the Scorchers and Heat previously gave them the self-belief they could turn things around by beating the second-placed Stars (eight points).

"We haven't played our best cricket against the teams below us on the table,” he said.

"But whenever we play teams above us we sort of lifted for the occasion. Hopefully we do something similar tomorrow night.”

Henriques said the Sixers learnt from their batting blunders against the Thunder.

"We've spoken about decision-making a lot ... all the batters went too hard, too early,” he said.

Tonight: Hurricanes v Scorchers 3.20pm, Stars v Sixers 6.35pm (AEST)
