UPDATE: A suspected arson attack at Siena Catholic College has damaged an office dedicated to helping students struggling with their schoolwork.

Principal Graeme Hight said he felt sorry for the staff and students whose work was destroyed by the fire which started about 2am today.

"We've had some windows broken and someone has lit a fire inside there," Mr Hight said.

Police believe the fire was lit in books and cardboard on a shelf in an office attached to a learning support classroom.

"Inside the office itself, some cabinet work has been damaged (and) there is water damage on the floor obviously," Mr Hight said.

"Some of the student work unfortunately has been destroyed."

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they spread through the building.

Mr Hight said there was no structural damage.

"We are moving that area (of learning) to another part of the school and it's business as normal."

He said his first reaction was to feel sorry for the students and teachers affected.

Scenes of crime officers this morning dusted for fingerprints and searched for other evidence.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police have confirmed the fire occurred at an educational facility on Sippy Downs Drive overnight.

Officers believe that shortly before 2am, vandals broke into a classroom and set it alight.

Emergency services arrived and the fire was soon put out, as fire crews kept the flames to one room.

Police are now investigating and seeking public help to identify those involved.
