Shooting goals on netball precinct project as slabs poured

THE third of eight concrete slabs have been poured for new netball courts being completed by local contractor Brett Pollock Constructions.

Netballers across Maranoa are only a goal's throw from hitting the ground running on the new Maranoa Netball Precinct at Bassett Park, Roma.

The project, which began at the end of October, is set to be finished by late February.

The Queensland Government provided $850,000 to the Maranoa Regional Council for the Maranoa Netball Precinct Project to increase participation in sport and recreation activities in the region.

The netball courts lighting project has funded $100,000 to light up four additional courts under the Queensland Government $400 million Works for Queensland.

The clubhouse, court surfacing and lighting work will begin next year.

Councillor Peter Flynn, portfolio chair for sport and recreation, said it was great to see major progress being made.

"A facility of this standard will encourage netball player numbers to grow, enticing more netball events to the region and increasing our kids participation in sport,” Cr Flynn said.
