Shooters start new year firing

SHOOTING: Loud cracks rang in the New Year as seasoned and first time shooters took aim at the Eric Burey Memorial Rifle Range in Muckadilla.

The opening rifle shoot of the year on Saturday, designed to promote participation, training and development in competitive rifle shooting, helped shooters set their sights on the 2020 competition. Publicity officer Wayne Bryant said the inclusion of the hunter class as well as the new solo system electronic targets meant this year should be one of the best yet.

“It’s a great chance for any new shooters who would like to try out the long range competition with what they use for their livelihood,” he said.

“When it comes to shooting, there’s no relying on strength or dexterity, it involves a lot of concentration, patience and reading the weather.

“Long range target shooting does not favour gender, nor are persons living with a disability prohibited from competing.”
