One year since Sharon Edwards disappeared

THIS time last year, the alarm was yet to be raised that Grafton school teacher Sharon Edwards had gone missing.

But police believe someone, somewhere knew something was amiss.

>> TIMELINE: Still no trace of Sharon Edwards

Mrs Edwards' last interactions with friends and family were on March 14, 2015. She played tennis at the Grafton City Tennis Club, stayed around for a few drinks and then went to dinner with a friend at the Good Intent Hotel in South Grafton.

Grafton City Tennis Club coach Phil Beckman still thinks about that day and remembers it vividly.

He said the club was in the second week of the Saturday afternoon competition, which Mrs Edwards helped to organise each year. This year, however, it has begun without her.

"She used to do the draws and collected the score sheets," Mr Beckman said.

"It's strange having someone else do that job when she was doing it for so long.

"When I saw her that day everything was normal, and then to hear she went missing was quite strange. I still think about that, and I think all of us would like to know what happened to her."

Mr Beckman said the mother of three and grandmother of one was a dedicated and valued member of both the tennis club and the wider community.

"She was a really lovely person; highly regarded by lots of people and she knew lots of the kids," he said.

"It was really a shock and still to this day I can't believe we know nothing about it. Because there's no answers it's pretty hard to conceive."

Strike Force Burrow, comprising detectives from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command and the Northern Region, has been in charge of the investigation into the disappearance and probable murder of the Coutts Crossing Public School teacher for close to a year. There have been numerous property searches, doorknocks, and land and river searches.

Investigations since April have centred around a belief that Mrs Edwards' last known whereabouts was between Grafton and Lawrence sometime in the early hours of March 15.

>> TIMELINE: Still no trace of Sharon Edwards

It is believed Coutts Crossing Public School has plans to hold a memorial or tribute for Mrs Edwards at some stage, but a Department of Education spokesman said the school "wasn't publicising anything they may be doing".
