Severe thunderstorm warning for region

THE Bureau of Meteorology have issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Maranoa region, with risk of damaging winds and large hailstones.

The alert was issued for people in parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

A spokesman for BOM said severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones n the warning area over the next several hours.

Roma, Taroom, Rollestone, Sprinsure, Injune and Carnarvon Park are likely to be affected.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advise people should do the following:

  • Move your car under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure loose outdoor items.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, or monitor www.bom.gov.au.
