Samsung Galaxy Note7: Hands on with one big phone

WHEN the first Galaxy Note was released in 2011 it looked more like you were using an iPad to talk on than an iPhone.

Five years later and you nearly need to hold the Note7 next to the smaller Galaxy Note7 to realise how much bigger it is.

Curving the edges of the screen and taking them right to the edge makes the Note7 feel smaller and more manageable while still sporting a 5.7 inch screen.

Like the Galaxy S7 Edge the Note7 has curved edges on both sides of the screen. But the curve is lesser than in the Edge responding to complaints it was too easy to activate the edge functions accidentally.

Together it makes the Note7 useable in one hand. Not something you could say about previous Note   iterations.

But the Note7 also brings new features to the S Pen stylus. It can now wrote notes on the screen without unlocking the phone. The S Pen can also capture up to 15 seconds of video to convert into a GIF that you can easily share on social media.

The Note& also uses the same camera in smaller Galaxy S7 model - the best phone camera currently on the market.

From brief hands on time with the Note7 the phone lives up to most of Samsung's promises. It doesn't come with the soon-to-be-released Android Nougat software but Samsung says that upgrade will come.

But it is the most useable the Note range has ever been.
