Sam Scarlett scores big time with Broncos
LEAGUE: HE'S the Wandoan kid who could be an understudy for Brisbane Broncos stars Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford in 2016.
Sam Scarlett has just signed with the Broncos through Intrust Super Cup side Souths-Logan Magpies.
With the Broncos losing young playmakers Jayden Nikorima (Roosters) and Ashley Taylor (Gold Coast) at the end of the last season, former Wandoan Wildcats junior Scarlett looks poised to be the stand-in for Brisbane if either Milford or Hunt were unavailable.
Scarlett, 21, captained Queensland at under-18s years ago and was playing for the Penrith Panthers in the NSW Cup during 2015, where he was plagued with injuries.
Despite his miniscule 75kg frame, Souths-Logan CEO Jim McClelland said he was excited to see Scarlett playing for the black-and-white.
"We reckon he's going to go really well and we'd like to see him playing at that level next year," he said.
"Wayne (Bennett, Broncos mentor) coached and played here and he's looking at placing some decent players at our roster.
"Sam is on the top of our list, but the kids we produce from our corridor will be coming to play for us as well."
The Magpies missed the finals for Intrust Super Cup in 2015.
