Sade makes a splash

Waterskiing: At just 15 years of age Sade Ferguson has been crowned a world champion in Spain for waterskiing.

Roma sisters Molly, 17, and Sade have made Roma proud as they have competed at the Junior Waterskiing World Championships.

Sade, Molly and team member Abbey Teague made the final for the jump event on Sunday, all confident they were competing for the experience, rather then the win.

However, in a turn of events, Sade snagged the best jump of the competition to win gold for Australia.

The squad of eight placed fourth overall, an incredible milestone for a competition contested by more than in 140 skiers from 30 countries.

This year was also the first time in history three Australians qualified for a final.

Australian junior team manager and mother of the sisters Lou Ferguson was proud of the girls' achievements.

"These competitors are the best of the best,” she said.

"The vibe is great and the atmosphere is awesome and there are a lot of wonderful athletes here. It's so inspiring.

"As long as the girls have had fun and got growth out of competing in the competition it is great,” Lou said.

The Western Star spoke to the girls on Friday after their first day of competition.

"I feel really good after day one of the competition and am very happy with where I placed for jump,” Sade said.

"It was a bit nerve wracking especially because I was a lot younger than most of the other jumpers, but it's still pretty good.”

"The first day of competition was a lot of fun and I jumped a PB in one of the rounds,” Molly said.

"This is different to every other tournament and it is the pinnacle event,” she said.
