Roma's Project to Stay

The ULDA development at Clearview Rise in Roma will not be handed over to the Maranoa Regional Council, LNP member Jeff Seeney said.

Mr Seeney, the deputy premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, said the Urban Land Development Authority would continue to manage the project.

"The ULDA will complete the projects which are currently underway, including the Roma UDA," he said.

The ULDA is a state government agency which manages estates like the one at Clearview Rise.

It was set up under the state's Labor government. The LNP has long been outspoken critics of the ULDA, saying affordable housing developments like these should be run by local government.

Before winning the election Campbell Newman promised he would wind back the organisation.

"If I was elected premier, we will curtail this organisation that is unaccountable and unelected," Mr Newman said
Mr Seeney confirmed they intended to keep this promise.

"As part of its election commitment, the LNP government had started the process to identify state planning powers that could be transferred to larger local governments," Mr Seeney said.

"The government believes it is important to shift power back to local government and, where appropriate, give that tier of government the independence to make decisions for their local communities.''

"We see an ongoing role for the ULDA or some derivative in the long term in smaller local governments," Mr Seeney said.
