Roma wins touch carnival

TOUCH FOOTBALL: There was no stopping the junior Roma touch teams as they took out first, second and third at a weekend competition in Toowoomba.

The Roma Rangers Junior Touch fielded three teams for the Titans Junior Club Challenge in its inaugural carnival.

The kids from the bush were resilient and tough on the field, allowing the under-10 boys to take home the title of champion, the U12 girls securing second and the U12 boys finishing third overall.

The U10 boys were undefeated and made the grand final, in which they defeated rivals Dalby 5-3.

The U12 girls won four of their five games and qualified for the grand final but went down 4-1 to the well-drilled and competitive Toowoomba All Stars Mermaids.

The U12 boys won three games, drew two and lost two tight games to end up in third position on the table.

All teams performed well and gained great experience from the carnival.

The junior touch competition has grown dramatically during the past three years and is run on Monday afternoons during school terms one and four.

The club has about 210 children playing across several age groups from U6-U14 and new players are welcome to join.

In 2019, Roma Rangers Junior Touch will host the MPC Kinetic Roma Country Cup on March 2-3 and the club hopes to field teams from U10 to open and masters.
