Roma students receive OPs

FOR students across Queensland, midnight on December 16 brought about a nail-biting moment: the release of the 2017 OP scores.

Huddled around computers, Roma students learned the outcome of their school endeavours, with some picking up excellent scores between 2 and 5.

Roma State College senior student Anna Rowbotham received the second-highest possible score - an OP2.

"I didn't know what to expect before I went on the website, so I can't say I was nervous,” she said.

"When I finally opened it, and I saw I had received an OP2, I was so excited - I had done better than hoped. I called my parents straight away to tell them.”

Anna has a bright future ahead of her, applying to study agribusiness at Gatton. Her classmates, fellow high achievers Serena Sharpe and Tom Eddie, also celebrated receiving high OP scores.

"I checked the results page a minute past midnight, and there it was - my OP was the first thing that popped up on the page. It's funny to say but I didn't expect it. I was excited when I saw my score - an OP 4,” Miss Sharpe said.

"I went out for a walk early in the morning, so I left a note for my parents. When I came back my mum was in hysterics, she was over the moon.”

There was success across the board in Roma, as St John's School principal Donaugh Shirley reported 25 per cent of eligible St John's students received an OP1-5.

"This has been the best year we have had in quite a while,” Ms Shirley said.

"This is exceptional, especially for a regional school, and since I've come I've been really trying to push the quality and diversity of what is being offered here.

"I am thrilled. They deserved it and the whole year group has done well.

"I wish them all the best of luck with their future endeavours.”
