Roma Souths claim minor premiership, head to grand final
Cricket: Having claimed theminor premiership for Roma and District Cricket, Souths are being careful notto get too confident untilnext weekend's grand final.
Captain Scott Hilton said he was happy with how their game went, making a convincing win over Injune, finishing the Saturday game without losing a wicket for 64 in the seventh over, while Injune were bowled out for 55.
"Obviously it doesn't count for much because it's not a grand final, but it's still good to get the win over a good Injune side,” Hilton said.
"Scott Pearson bowled very well today, he took five wickets for six runs. Geoff Masalin bowled well too, they really showed the step in class between us and Injune.
"After that performance you have to be confident but obviously it doesn't count for everything.
"Hopefully we can replicate the performance at the grand final.
"There's nothing worse than being the best side allyear and then getting beaten in the big dance butwe're going for six in a row.”
Hilton said this would be their seventh grand final in the club's eighth year, with their opponent set to be decided next weekend, after the Leprechauns took on Wallumbilla on Sunday.
The Leprechauns claimed the win with a convincing 240 total, then bowling out Wallumbilla for 80.
AJ Riley made 121 runs and Andrew Brandt was not out on 49.
Captain Locky Hoey said they were well prepared totake on a strong Injune side in this weekend's decider.
"Playing Injune at their home is always a big task and they have a formidable batting up,” Hoey said.
"The key to winning is early wickets.
"It's going to be a good game of cricket.”
