Roma slumps to Dalby
RUGBY UNION: Roma has gone down heavily to a rampant Dalby team, the Echidnas having no answers for one of the frontrunners in the Risdon Cup.
The Wheatmen's 84-0 victory over Roma was capped off by a 53-point second half, which involved several long-range tries.
A pair of sin-bins for the Roma team did not help their cause however they physically tested the premiers for 80 minutes, particularly in the first quarter of the match,
Wheatmen coach Nathan Bradley said he was pleased with the way his side played in the victory.
"This was exactly the performance we wanted,” Bradley said.
"We wanted to play well and to win well which is what we did.
"We have been working hard to play a game like that and we got the result.”
Saturday was another learning curve for the young Roma side which has struggled against teams in the top half of the table.
The Echidnas were competitive in the first quarter of the match, before fatigue set in.
Coach Justin Garvie said despite the heavy loss, there were positives his young side could take from the match.
"There were some good passages there but they are number two in the comp and we are rebuilding,” Garvie said.
"It is a big scoreline but there are some things the guys will be able to take out of this and move forward.”
The Echidnas will have a chance to bounce back in a fortnight when the side faces fellow strugglers Highfields away from home.
