Roma shed secures funds for upgrades
ROMA'S Men's Shed is on the up and up, with the community club receiving another grant to improve its facilities.
Maranoa MP David Littleproud congratulated the community organisation after it was awarded a $8498 grant earlier this week.
The Men's Shed was awarded the grant by the Coalition Government, allowing for equipment andbuilding upgrades underthe government's National Shed Development Program.
"Like similar sheds across Australia, the Roma shed offers great benefits to any local men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easygoing company,” MrLittleproud said.
"The Coalition Government recognises these benefits and is providing a total of $5.1million over three years to the national Men's Shed movement.
"Men are talking about their health more and more and the Men's Shed provides a safe and friendly environment for them to doso.
"Men's Sheds are integral to the community and the benefits to men's health are widely acknowledged.”
Roma Community Men's Shed will use its government grant to install a Zippy boiler and dishwasher to enhance the meeting space and also have an 80sqm concrete slab laid around the shed to address safety and access, particularly for those with disabilities.
Roma Men's Shed president Michael Stuhmcke said grants were integral for the club's maintenance.
"We have a very active secretary at the club and he has been putting in lots of applications for funding,” MrStuhmcke said.
"The Men's Shed is non-for-profit, so we need the funding to keep moving forwards.
"We are now hoping to secure more so we can get an airconditioning unit in the clubhouse.”
The Men's Shed plays an important role in the community, by providing men a safe space to work together and relax in company.
