Roma rings in new year with style

For what was hyped to be the most exciting night of the year, the venues of Roma were only modestly patronised on Saturday night for New Year's Eve.

Motels were empty and there was a general consensus around town that this year's numbers had significantly dropped from last year's festivities.

All six drinking establishments were opened for business on Saturday night, and coupled with people enjoying a holiday away, a party at home or even an early night, it made for the lines at the bar to be conveniently short.

People were well behaved on such a quiet night with the Roma police only charging two people with public nuisance offences.

That's not to say that it was a boring night however.

With a guest DJ at The Zone nightclub and live music at The Commonwealth Hotel, as well as Irish McGann's and the White Bull having a license to stay open until 2am and 3am respectively the New Year was still celebrated until the early hours of Sunday morning.
