Roma residents avoid prolonged power outages

HOUSES near Roma State College Middle Campus who lost power yesterday were quickly back online, thanks to swift action from Ergon Energy.

Streets including Ferrier St, Russell St, Hoffman St, Highview Cl, Bromeliad Cct, Acacia Rd, Bourne Dr, Parker St, Bowen St, Currey St, McDowall St, Feather St, Duke St, Upper Bowen St, Mayne St, Cottell St, Whip St lost power after a sheet of roofing fell on power lines on the corner of Timbury and Cottell St.

Rob Rehbein, Ergon Energy's corporate communications manager, said the roofing blew off a house on Timbury St.

"A piece of roofing had blown off a nearby house, so it must have been a fair breeze,” Mr Rehbein said.

He said power went out for 585 customers in Roma at around 2.55pm.

139 customers were back up and running by 4.15pm, and the remaining 446 customers had power again by 6pm, Mr Rehbein said.

Some customers had power restored before momentarily losing it again for around five minutes.

This was part because Ergon temporarily reset power, as part of returning things to normal, Mr Rehbein said.
