Roma remembers 'trivia king' Grant Aisthorpe

GRANT Aisthorpe loved a good round of trivia, so it was only appropriate that friends of his family honoured his memory on Saturday at the Roma Bowls Club.

The organisers behind the trivia night raised more than $6500 for beyondblue in memory of Mr Aisthorpe, who passed away a year ago.

On top of more than 100 participants on Saturday night, Roma businesses also donated at least 50 raffle and cent auction prizes.

Head organiser Kylie Menear said the idea seemed appropriate in the lead-up to the anniversary of Mr Aisthorpe's passing.

"I wanted to do something last year but it just didn't work out,” she said.

Mr Aisthorpe, who worked for Queensland Health in Roma for 18 months before his death, was well-known by friends and family for his trivia knowledge.

"Grant was a trivia king - he was always reading facts and non-fiction was he was knowledgeable,” his widow Stacey said.

The drive out was difficult for Stacey, but said she was proud of what Ms Menear had achieved in a short space of time.

"Kylie's done it all - it was quite a challenge to come out here again but I'm glad I did,” she said.

Ms Menear thanked every participant and all the businesses who donated prizes.

"It's been overwhelming, the generosity from locals,” she said.
