Roma hit sixes to win first match since 1995

Cricket: In a turn of events and the first time in 23 years, the Roma cricket side has defeated the Wanderers team.

The Wanderers were first up to bat for the 35 overs a side match with P.Bourke batting first and scoring 14 run and going out by a catch from Hoey.

M.Hicks snagged only seven runs before being caught out by Burey. J.Jennings got the show going for the Wanderers with 40 runs.

The Wanderers finished their innings with a total of 172 runs.

The Roma side were next to bat, going into the innings having to catch their opponents.

Roma and District Cricket Association president Scott Hilton said they had a lot of chasing to do.

"We chased them and they batted first and set a decent total,” he said.

Ryan Carter was the first of boys from the bush to take the to the cricket pitch.

"Ryan's innings really took the pressure off the rest of us scoring 68 runs early in the game was a good head start,” Hilton said.

AJ Riley was also instrumental in Roma's comeback, nailing a total of 37 run in 38 balls.

"Ryan Carter was the Man of the match in the first game after his great innings of 68 off 39 balls.

Roma took the overall with an impressive 173 runs, the first win since 1995.
