Roma flood mitigation costs have tripled
MARANOA Council now estimates Roma flood mitigation project will cost $30 million - over three times as much as the original estimate of $9 million.
In a briefing note published yesterday, Council said they had already had secured $7.42m for Roma with two more funding sources in the pipeline.
In December, Council got $4.7 million from the state government's South West Queensland Flood Mitigation Fund and got another $2.72 million from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
Council has also applied for the Royalties for the Regions funding program and has submitted an application to the Federal Regional Development Australia funding on December 6.
Council expects a result on both these applications next month.
Stage one of the Roma flood mitigation project includes the initial studies, design and construction of a levee embankment around 4.9km long.
Maranoa Mayor Robert Loughnan said the State had provided substantial funding now it was time for the federal government to step up.
