Roma embraces screening

ONE woman's private struggle with body image issues has become very public.

Taryn Brumfitt was a successful business owner and mother of three when she made the decision to document her journey from loathing to accepting her body.

The resulting film, Embrace has made Ms Brumfitt a world-renowned body image activist and educator.

Her story has resonated with thousands of people around the world, perhaps none more so than Jessica Ryder from Toowoomba.

Ms Ryder saw the film in Sydney and immediately felt a connection to its message of body positivity.

"The message had a beautiful impact on my life,” Ms Ryder said.

"The movie trailer popped up in my Facebook feed and I sat there with tears rolling down my face while watching it.”

Now, Ms Ryder wants to bring the film to Roma.

After a sold-out season in Toowoomba, Ms Ryder said the Roma community quickly embraced the idea of a special screening.

The screening, to be held at Cinema Roma on Tuesday, November 29 at 6.30pm, already has more than 90 bookings, and tickets are still available.

"The community really picked up on it and got behind it,” Ms Ryder said.

She said local businesses have reached out to sponsor the event, and there are more opportunities to be involved.
