Roma Echidnas' 'home away from home'

THEY are yet to play a game, but the Roma Echidnas' 2017 season is off to a flying start.

Long-term major sponsors Roma's Irish McGann's have just made a deal with the club that delivers the biggest sponsorship to date.

Echidnas club president Robert Loughnan said club members were over the moon to receive the support from the business.

"This is the most lucrative club sponsorship we have ever been involved in,” he said.

"It marks our fifth consecutive year with Irish McGann's, leading in to their 100th anniversary next year.

"It's a two-year deal and the club is delighted to have a quality sponsor back on board.”

Loughnan said they had a great relationship with Irish McGann's and they were looking forward to celebrating wins at the establishment next year.

"It gives us a home away from home,” he said.

"We can promote our up and coming games and it's right in the hub of the community.

"It's a place where our boys can come and relax when they are not training and playing.”

Irish McGann's Beth Kelly said they were happy to be partnered with the club once again.

"We are happy that the boys have come back to us,” she said.

"The Irish is the home of the Echidnas and that's how I've always known it.

"We are looking forward to a good season and I'll try be at every single game.”

As well at the club games, the Rugby 7s competition will kick off next year.

Committee member Jack Grant said he hoped to see a number of people join in on the competition, which will begin on February 4.

"At this stage we have more than 12 teams that have signed up to play and then on top of that are also four women's teams,” he said.

"We are hoping to get a women's team from Roma though.”
