The Roma Cup's most dominant horses over 50 years
THE Roma Cup is one of the most famous and highly-sought after races in Queensland country racing - so there's no surprise some amazing horses have won it on multiple occasions.
The most successful horse? That award goes to the incredible Berossus, which won the three-peat between 1986 and 1988.
Amazingly, while five horses have won two or more Roma Cups, Berossus was the only horse to win more than two during that successful run of wins.
The first ever winner of the Roma Cup, back in 1965, was taken out by Braver Borderer, with Lord Casir winning the year after.
The 1970s were dominated by two horses, Prince Hagen and Bright Realm, who won four Roma Cups between them.
Prince Hagen's second win was particularly memorable, holding the record for longest period in between Roma Cup wins (four years).
The last horse to win multiple Roma Cups was way back in 1995, when Gypsy Tornado took out its second after winning its first in 1993.
Gypsy Tornado and rival Stars and Stripes dominated the early 1990s, winning four Roma Cups between them from 1992 to 1995.
Five-year-old mare Tints was last year's winner and will look to defend her crown on Saturday against a star-studded field.
The only year to be washed out by rain was in 2000, with no winner given.
