Estimates say Roma Cup is worth $3 million
THIS year's Roma Cup is worth roughly $3 million to our region - but its value extends far beyond that.
That's according to Maranoa Regional Council and Commerce Roma, who have crunched the numbers and given their assessment on the economic prospects of this year's event.
Councillor Cameron O'Neil said MRC, which had spent $12,000 through sponsorship and advertising, was predicting roughly 10,000 people to walk through the gates of Bassett Park.
"With about 10,000 people attending the Roma Cup on an annual basis, and approximately 89% of attendees coming from outside of the region, the Maranoa economy is given a substantial boost during this weekend," he said.
"It is estimated that each visitor spends $343 on average during their stay, therefore it can be anticipated that around $3million will be injected into the Maranoa economy during the Roma Cup weekend."
Commerce Roma president Carmen Roberts said the Roma Cup let excited residents be proud of their community.
"It improves the liveability of Roma - the uni students come out and bring their friends," she said.
"This is the sort of thing locals like to boast about - it's a time to show off.
"There's a massive buzz and it shows off what is good about Roma."
