Roma Airport to open in March
The new Roma Airport terminal is on schedule for an official opening on March 17.
Council plans to do a "light opening" on February 28 to test out the procedures before the official launch.
The outside of the gleaming new terminal is complete but inside still looks like a shell.
The Western Star got a sneak preview of the terminal last weekend and it was clear a lot of work remains to be done on the interior to meet the deadline, though council are confident it will be done in time.
The three new check-in desks are in place as is the area where hand baggage will be screened.
To the right of the screening area lies the car hire desks.
To the rear of the building is the new departure lounge cordoned off from the arrivals area.
There is also a separate Santos lounge.
The public lounge will contain public toilets and a kiosk.
More work is also required on the apron in front of the new terminal.
A total of $11.76 million, from council and external funding sources, has been allocated for completion of the upgrade, which will enable landing of larger aircraft.
