RIO 2016: Jessica Fox wins canoe slalom bronze

CANOEING: Australia's Jessica Fox said she was still happy with a bronze medal after missing out on a silver following a judging decision in the K1 slalom at the Rio Games.

Fox, who won silver four years ago in London, finished in 100.49 seconds, a time which would have seen her in second again.

But after reviewing footage, officials said she touched the last gate of the run in the final to pick up a two-second penalty.

That was enough to drop Fox down a place and she eventually finished third behind Spain's Maialen Chourraut, who produced a blistering run to win the gold medal in 98.65 seconds.

New Zealand's Luuka Jones won the silver with her clean performance of 101.82 seconds.

Fox,22, said it was disappointing not to have done better but was happy to be on the podium.

"My heart sank a little because I came into tightly into the upstream and slid out," she told Channel Seven of the ruling on her touch on gate 22.

"Then two seconds were added to my time.

"I came on late... I didn't know if I hit it or not.

"Third place, obviously, the dream was the gold medal but I will have to return in four years time."

Fox had no complaints about the ruling.

"With the wind it was hard to know but with the video I'm sure it was probably there," Fox said.
