VIDEO: Maranoa motocross riders get help from top coach
MOTOCROSS: STAR motocross racing coach Chris Urquhart has spent two days working with up and coming Maranoa riders.
Urquhart said the Y-AIM Motocross Coaching course covered everything from braking and passing to jumping and starts.
"It's all about building not only safer riders but faster riders," he said.
Urquhart said teaching riders to ride better means they can learn to improve in the sport, ride longer and get more enjoyment out of it.
While visiting Roma, Urquhart had dozens of students from six years old to a dad in his 40s.
"We had a turnout of all ages," he said.
For more than a decade he has been visiting the region with his coaching clinic.
"It's probably one of my favourite clubs, I've been coming a long time," Urquhart said.
He said country kids were always excited to have him visit, as it wasn't something they had access to on a regular basis.
One youngster who has benefited from Urquhart's visits is local champion and Young Injune Citizen of the Year Jake Williams, who has attended since the program first started.
"This is my eleventh year in a row coming along to Chris," he said.
Williams said Urquhart's coaching had been a massive help in improving his technique.
His next major competition will be in Gladstone where he will compete in the 13 years to 15 years 250 and 125 events.
"It's always a pretty tough race," said Williams.
ROUND one of the Shell Series will be held in Roma March 14 and 15.
