Review starts on backpacker tax

FEDERAL Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt is encouraging people to have their say on a review of the backpacker tax.

The review was announced and public consultation sought on the range of issues affecting remuneration conditions for working holidaymakers.

"Both farmers and tourism operators have expressed their opinions to me about the supply and taxation of working holiday visa holders, and I have listened to their concerns," Mr Pitt said.

Mr Pitt said the government recognised the importance of working holidaymakers as a vital source of labour.

The review will address key elements, international competitiveness for backpackers, projected growth in agriculture and tourism, support for small businesses engaging seasonal labour and protections for vulnerable workers.
