‘Revenue raising’: LNP fighting speed limit
VEHICLES could once again be travelling at 110km/h between Surat and St George, if the LNP gains power in October’s state election.
Member for Warrego Ann Leahy said the stretch of road was among the best roads in the region, and it should not have been reduced to 100km/h under the Labor Government.
“The speed limit on this stretch of highway should go back to 110kmh,” she said.
“Major upgrades have been completed between Surat and St George, and the road is now better than when it was previously a 110kmh speed zone.
“The surface is better than some of the other roads in the Warrego electorate that are already in that 110km speed category.”
Ms Leahy said the Palaszczuk Labor government was simply revenue raising by keeping the road at 100lmh.
“I objected to the removal of the 110km speed zone by Labor, and it’s time to put it back,” Ms Leahy said.
“If Labor doesn’t act, a Deb Frecklington LNP Government will increase the speed limit back.
“Every road used should always drive according to the conditions, but if conditions are fine then 110kmh is an appropriate speed limit for this stretch of road.”
Ms Leahy noted that the increased speed limit would not apply to heavy vehicles or other speed-limited vehicles.
