Remembering the life of Kelly Mason

KELLY Mason is being remembered as a devoted and loyal police officer after losing her six-month battle with cancer.

The 33-year-old was born and raised in Roma to parents Robyn and Troy Hagan, before beginning her police career in Ipswich in 2008.

Early on in her career, Kelly started working with the Ipswich Child Protection Investigation Unit.

"She gained a reputation as a lead investigator with dogged determination and gained the admiration of many officers who would often come to her for advice and help,” friend Jodie Kirkman said.

Kelly met her best friend and soul mate Josh Mason while in the Detective Training Program.

She moved to the Sunshine Coast to be with Josh and continued her work as a detective in the Noosa Child Protection Investigation Unit.

Kelly married Josh on March 12, 2016, and in November 2017 she was diagnosed with a rare form of cervical cancer.

After months of radiation therapy and chemotherapy, the family told the wider community that her condition was no longer medically treatable.

"Kel fought the good fight and never once let her situation bring her down,” Jodie said.

"As sick as she was, she made the most of life living every minute for her family and friends, which meant the world to her.

Jodie said Kelly was always known for her beautiful smile, kind soul and gentle nature.

"The mark that she has left in this world will never be forgotten.”

Kelly leaves behind her husband Josh, much loved parents Robyn and Troy Hagan, much loved sister Bec Hagan with wife Kirsty and nephew Weston, and much loved grandparents Maymar and Bert and beloved dog Minnie.
