Region rugs up as mercury plummets
WINTER made an early stopover in the Maranoa, as Tuesday's overnight temperature plummeted more than seven degrees from the previous 24 hours.
Our fingers and toes definitely let us know that the cooler months had arrived when Roma recorded a minimum overnight temperature of just 1.3 degrees Celsius, nearly 14 degrees cooler than the weekend.
Surat stayed relatively warm overnight, recording 5.8 degrees, but Mitchell and Injune also felt the chill with 2 degrees.
The month of April has only dropped 1mm of rain on the Maranoa, recorded at Injune on Tuesday.
The dry weather is a welcome relief to the region with Injune, Mitchell, Surat and Roma individually receiving over 350mm of rain in 2012.
This amount exceeds both the yearly average to April and the amount recorded to the same point of the year in 2011.
Mitchell is setting the pace. As of April 11, the town had recorded 179.6mm of rain more than the yearly average to April and 238mm more rain to the same point in 2011.
