Reducing waste at Mitchell’s new waste transfer facility
MARANOA Regional Council would like to advise Mitchell and surrounding residents that the current Mitchell Landfill will be closed from Tuesday, October 6 and will be transformed into a Waste Transfer Facility.
In July 2019, the Queensland Government introduced a new Waste Levy for Queensland local
This new Waste Transfer Station will aim to reduce waste to landfill and reduce cost to ratepayers.
Local residents can dispose of household and domestic waste at the Waste Transfer Facility,
where waste will be stored temporarily.
Two 15 cubic metre bins will be located on the southern side of the ramp at the entrance to the current landfill. A scheduled Council waste truck will come to the facility, collect waste for permanent disposal into the new landfill cell.
All residents within the Mitchell area can access the Waste Transfer Facility during the opening hours of 8am to 4.30pm seven days per week.
The following types of waste can be disposed of at the Waste Transfer Facility.
- Domestic waste (in bins provided)
- Green waste (in signed area)
- Scrap metal or steel (in signed area).
If you have a prohibited waste type, you must dispose of it at an approved waste facility.
All construction and demolition waste produced at Mitchell or surrounding area must be taken to Roma.
Any person that delivers non approved waste to this site will be invoiced for the type of waste
delivered in line with the State’s waste levy.
If you are unsure where to dispose of your waste please contact Council’s Environmental
Health and Waste Team on 1300 007 662 for further assistance.
Council Officers will be in attendance on Tuesday, October 6 to provide direction of where
to place your waste.
