Red Bulls win minor premiership
THE Wallumbilla-Surat Red Bulls have taken out the minor premiership after their win over St George in Surat on Sunday.
The Bulls were too strong for the visitors in most departments and it showed on the scoreboard with the hosts racing out to a 32-6 victory.
They made their intentions known as early as the 3rd minute with Brendon Allwood crossing the line and Jordan Galbraith adding the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Inspirational captain Bobby Hobbs doubled their advantage minutes later with a typical barnstorming solo run.
On 18 minutes a great run by Brodie Lucht was rewarded with a Nathan Schwerin try to make it 16-0 and when Les Mickelborough muscled his way through to make it 22-0 on the half hour, St George looked buried.
Sam Davis finally found some room to show his trickery leading to a Lucas McKenna try and PJ Prince conversion to put the visitors on the board.
It remained 22-6 at the break and neither side seemed inspired to change proceedings in the second half.
Finally on the hour mark, a St George knock-on in their own 22 proved costly with full back Lucht capping a fine game to grab a try.
The try of the day belonged to Jacob Brand who pulled a Robert Hobbs bomb out of the sky in a mark that would have had AFL fans drooling.
It was 32-6 to the hosts when the ref brought an early end to proceedings due to a serious injury to one of the St George players.
The Red Bulls now line up against second placed Cities in a fortnight in the major semi for a shot at the grand final.
