Red Bulls pull off 20 point win over the Pies
Rugby league: In their third win of the season, the Wallumbilla/Surat Red Bulls put on a show in front of a home crowd, coming away with a comfortable 34-14 win over Mitchell Magpies.
Coach Ricky Wright was "stoked” with the good win the boys had put over their competition and, although he didn't want to get ahead of himself, is feeling confident about his team this year.
"It's pretty early in the season but this was our third win. I'm pretty happy with how they went,” he said.
"We had a young fella Ethan Draper play. He's only just started playing A grade but he did a really good job.
"In terms of points, Mitchell Naprasnik and Kurt Rowbotham were really outstanding players.”
Wright said the boys enjoyed playing on their home ground and were appreciative of the crowd that came out to support them.
"It was good to go down there and play on the home soil,” he said.
"It definitely is an advantage - we love playing at Surat and Wallumbilla.”
Defence was a strong suit for the Red Bulls on Sunday, keeping Mitchell from scoring more than one try until the last 10 minutes.
"For the first 70-odd minutes, Mitchell only had about four points. So up until then, the boys were really good in their defence,” Wright said.
The Red Bulls will head to Chinchilla this weekend, with Wright hoping for a win, no matter how small the lead.
"They're a hard team to beat at home and were the winners last year so we'll pull up our socks,” he said.
"I'd really like a win down there. Even a two-point win is still a win.”
