Records broken at St Johns' athletic carnival
RECORDS were broken, Where's Wally was found and great day was had by all students, teachers and family at this year's St John's athletics carnival last Friday.
St John's sports co-ordinator Danielle Gillam said she was glad the school had decided to postpone the carnival until a week later because of bad weather.
"The weather is perfect today so it's a good thing we pushed it back a week,” she said.
"We've had quite a few records broken today and the kids are all having a good time, which is the main thing.”
This year's carnival was the first time Year 11 student John Watkins had competed at St John's, having moved from Injune.
"This carnival is so much bigger than the one in Injune,” he said.
"It's good because I have a lot of mates here so that makes the day even better.”
John broke the 16yrs boy's long jump record, beating the previous record holder's length by 30cm.
Student Tom McNulty also broke the open boy's 800m record by four seconds.
