Local politicians urge rebuild of Roma Hospital

DO YOU think we should have a new hospital in Roma? After reports of serious issues with the current building, our politicians think we should.

Warrego MP Ann Leahy has circulated a petition urging the State Government to commit to a new hospital in Roma, after reports of structural inadequacy at the current building.

"The Roma Hospital is a major regional hospital servicing residents from the Maranoa region and further west," Ms Leahy said.

"There are serious structural issues with parts of the hospital that were built in 1940s and maintenance issues in the section of the hospital that was built in the 1970s."

Mayor Rob Loughnan has also offered his support, stating it is time for a full rebuild of the hospital.

"A full rebuild has been costed between $50-$80 million; that is what we need rather than band-aid solutions," he said.

Ms Leahy's petition can be viewed at http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petition?PetNum=2499
