Melbourne Rebels sweating on Sean McMahon injury

THE Melbourne Rebels will be hoping for some good news on the health of Sean McMahon after the Wallabies flanker injured his hip in the upset Super Rugby win over the Chiefs.

McMahon (pictured), 20, injured his hip in the 16-15 success over the Kiwis at AAMI Park, lasting only 30 minutes before being replaced.

If serious, he could miss the rest of the season and his participation in the World Cup in England later this year could also be in doubt.

The victory over the two-time Super Rugby champions equalled the Rebels' best-ever season performance with six rounds still to play and put coach Tony McGahan's club in 10th on the competition ladder.

Against the Chiefs, they conceded just seven penalties - half their opponents' total - while the Chiefs also had two yellow cards.

Chiefs winger James Lowe will appear before a Sanzar duty judicial officer after receiving his third yellow card for the season.

Lowe was yellow-carded after he appeared to kick out at Rebels centre Tamati Ellison in the 34th minute.
