RDRL brace for Men of League round this weekend
RUGBY LEAGUE: Aside from all the action on the field, players will be keeping those who tirelessly volunteer for the needy in mind with this weekend’s Men of League round.
Men of League rounds gives fans and players the opportunity to recognise the efforts of those who volunteer through the Men of League Foundation, which provides assistance to those in the rugby league community who are struggling or in tough times.
Roma and District Rugby League Chair Peter Flynn said there was a strong Men of League branch in the Roma area, with the branch holding a number of functions to help donate funds to those in need.
“There’s a strong branch here, and the Roma and District Club will also be supporting the round this weekend,” he said.
Mr Flynn noted the recent nomination of local league legend Darren Lockyer being voted as the Captains’ Captain at the recent Men of League Foundation Gala Dinner, held in partnership with the Australian Kangaroos.
Lockyer was voted through a system involving Men of League members and prominent sports journalists.
With only two more rounds before the semi-finals, Mr Flynn said it would make for an interesting round with only four points separating the top three teams.
“Red Bulls travel to Chinchilla this weekend, and while Chinchilla have been touted as favourites, it could go either way,” Mr Flynn said.
“That will likely be the best game in the A-grade for his weekend.
“Last week was a tough game for Cities and Chinchilla, and in very wet conditions.
“It could be a preview of the grand final.”
