Rally day draws families for Maranoa Team Penning

TEAM PENNING: Beautiful sunshine greeted the eager and keen riders for the Maranoa Team Penning rally day last Sunday.

Riders came from around the district ranging in ages from five to 75, and there were a lot of new faces among the many competitors.

The cattle, kindly donated by Hazel Beitz, made the task at hand difficult by not being very co-operative and making all members of each team work that extra bit harder.

Not many times were recorded during the day with the eventual winners being a team made up of Grant Harland, Keiran and Megs Burns.

Team penning is very much a family affair in the Maranoa, with many teams during the day were made up of mums and dads and their kids.

Everyone displayed great sportsmanship with a few looking like they should be riding at rodeos, with their horses throwing in a few bucks during the excitement.

In the break between rounds barrel races were run for the U14, Juvenile and Open.

In each age group there was keen competition to win, and it’s always great seeing the riding ability and the improvement of the many young riders.

Thank you to the all the organisers of this great day and thank you to the fantastic crowd that attended.
