Radar remains down

The Warrego rain radar remains down and will now be out until mid-next week due to a 'major outage.'

Technicians were sent from Brisbane on Monday to repair a fault that was detected on Thursday, January 5, but discovered on arrival that the job was larger than anticipated.

The air-conditioner broke down and sent temperatures inside the station upwards of 65 degrees which caused electrical equipment to fail.

A spokesperson from the Bureau of Meteorology said because of this, they expect the radar to be functional again next week.

"Some of the equipment is damaged and will need to be replaced," the spokesperson said.

"However it's too large to fly and will need to be sent by road from head office in Melbourne.

"We have technicians on the ground waiting for its arrival so they can start repairs as soon as it arrives."

The major outage coincides with sweltering temperatures in the region, however a reprieve is on the way this weekend with increased cloud cover and a chance of rain or thunderstorms.
