FORMER Sunshine Coast player Matt Gillett has kept his place in Queensland's 17-man squad which will feature one rookie when it is named officially at a lunch in Brisbane tomorrow.

Gillett was reportedly under pressure to play his 10th straight Origin but will be named on the bench along with Daly Cherry-Evans, rookie Josh McGuire and Warriors forward Jacob Lillyman who has edged out Josh Papalii.

Queensland selectors have Roosters hooker Jake Friend on standby in case Maroons skipper Cameron Smith cops a grade two contrary conduct charge for lashing out with his boots and striking South Sydney rival Issac Luke at the weekend.

He will be clear to play as long as he is not charge with anything higher than a grade one penalty.

North Queensland Michael Morgan, who scored three tries against Brisbane at the weekend and who can play multiple positions, is on standby in case Cherry-Evans fails to get through tonight's clash with Penrith.

Queensland will name bruising young Roosters hitman Dylan Napa as its 18th man.

The players were arriving in Brisbane for camp today.

The Queensland side that will be named tomorrow will be:

  • Billy Slater,
  • Will Chambers,
  • Greg Inglis,
  • Justin Hodges,
  • Darius Boyd,
  • Johnathan Thurston,
  • Cooper Cronk,
  • Matt Scott,
  • Cameron Smith (c),
  • Nate Myles,
  • Sam Thaiday,
  • Aidan Guerra,
  • Corey Parker.

  • Daly Cherry-Evans,
  • Josh McGuire,
  • Matt Gillett,
  • Jacob Lillyman.

18th man:

  • Dylan Napa.

Note - An earlier version of this story did not include Darius Boyd. The list has since been updated to include him at number five.
