Qld Govt investigates mining company Adani

THE Queensland agriculture department has revealed it is investigating whether mining company Adani was allowed to use state-owned quarry material in the Galilee Basin.

A spokesman said the department was gathering information about the company's use of material from the Red Hill Quarry, located on Moray Downs.

Conservation group Coast and Country, who are legally represented by the Environmental Defenders Office, sparked the inquiry amid claims Adani may not have had a permit to extract the material.

An Adani spokesman would not comment.

The agriculture department said it was investigating Adani's use of low-grade road construction type material extracted from the quarry.

"Adani's records indicate that 5580 tonnes of quarry material was recently taken from the Red Hill Quarry," the agriculture department spokesman said.

The spokesman said Adani was assisting the department with investigations.

"There are a range of compliance actions that can be imposed if the allegations are proven," the spokesman said.

"These include a letter of warning, demand for payment of foregone royalties, issue of penalty infringement notice, and prosecution."
