Putting pets first is the focus of weekend expo
CYRIL Peet has a passion for animals and caring for them - which is why he's trying to educate locals about it.
The Roma Pet Supplies owner has put education and information at the forefront of his annual Roma Pet Expo on Sunday.
The event will cover all kinds of pets, from traditional country animals like dogs, cats and horses, to reptiles, fish and small mammals.
Mr Peet said he would like to see a cultural shift around pet-care in the Maranoa, with a focus on holistic animal well-being.
"It's all about education - I find the educational resources reach Toowoomba but they don't ever come out here," he said.
"It's a whole cultural change (I'm looking at); I want to see a focus on better pet health and pet care."
Maranoa Veterinary Surgery will be coming along to provide advice and information, while Mr Peet has also invited two fish experts to the Expo as well as a zoologist who specialises in reptiles.
Maranoa Regional Council will also be running their stall.
"There will also be small animal enthusiasts coming, as well as representatives from Boobook and horse experts," he said.
Mr Peet said he was looking to build on the 300-strong crowd he had last year by inviting a number of community groups along, such as Apex, the Roma's Men's Shed, the Roma Historical Motor Club and a fundraiser for Yuleba burns victim Matthew Russell.
There will also be the prizes on offer for the best dressed and best behaved dogs.
The fish and reptile experts will also be available to talk to on Saturday.
