Putin rejects Japan's dog offer
JAPAN has been left with its tail between its legs, after Russian President Vladimir Putin knocked back the offer of a dog as a gift from the Japanese government.
The dog was intended to be a companion for an akita breed dog called Yume Mr Putin received from Japan in 2012.
Japanese MP Koichi Hagiuda wrote in a blog post: "Unfortunately, we heard from our counterparts and our hope to present a bridegroom was dashed.”
No reason was given for the rejection.
Mr Putin is due to meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a summit in Japan next week.
